Integrating Technology in the Classroom

In my opinion, technology should be used in the classroom!

When it comes to using educational technology to help foster education, I believe that it can and should be done.

Schools are beginning to invest heavily in technology, from purchasing new laptops to using overhead projectors. Let's face it, technology is not a "thing of the past."

Our classroom embraces using educational technology because almost all professions use some sort of technology. When students do not have the basic foundation of how to use technology or are unaware of how technology enables them to be better researchers, it puts them at a severe disadvantage.

I hope this blog provides valuable insights into a world with technology, embraces its advances, and opens students minds.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog!

This blog is intended to be a revolutionary motivator for students and teachers within my community and around the world. This blog allows me to be better connected with parents and our learners. This blog will contain postings about current educational trends, emerging technologies, and and concerning thoughts. Most importantly, my blog will allow students and parents to access in-class assignments or homework.

Teachers, parents, students.....Let's talk!

Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions and do not hesitate to contact me!

Excel Demonstration

Bleeding Edge Technology--

Just for fun!

Accelerate Using Excel

Microsoft (MS) Excel is a powerful spreadsheet tool that helps students acquire proficiency in both technology and subject content.

MS Excel is used to make calculations, create models and simulations. Simulations are very useful when trying to answer questions that life presents. Models in this case are used to try out different things to help determine what would be a better solution to a decision.

Excel also uses other tools that can help any parent or student better analyze and interpret data.

Teaching students to use technology such as MS Excel or other spreadsheet software (though Excel is most widely used) in a classroom will provide them with an alternative and more efficient way to make use of data.

Information is everywhere, how do you manage what's important?

So You Think Your Class Is Cancelled?

According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), twenty-one states have reported widespread influenza; one of which states is Georgia.

With the increase in the influenza outbreak, student attendance rates have been declining.

If the H1N1 virus keeps your students away from the classroom, Microsoft has offered a practical solution to combat this problem.

The article, Microsoft fights H1N1 virus with free website for schools, presents an interesting alternative for students who are told not to or are unable to attend class.

Office Live Workspace (OLW) is a tool that allows educators to create an online class workspace which allows students and teachers to:

  • · share assignments
  • · distribute handouts
  • · post presentations
  • · enable group collaboration

In my opinion, this tool will allow students to successfully communicate with their teachers and should be used in classrooms for everyone, not just those affected by the H1N1 virus. Because students often forget what assignments are due, this free website allows parents to be more involved with their child's education.
